Hi! My name is Amy and welcome to the Butt Seriously blog! From its birth, I’ve been working with the Stop Colon Cancer Now campaign, saving lives by increasing colon cancer screenings. I believe in the Stop Colon Cancer Now cause so much that I wanted to step from behind the scenes and write a blog that would spread colon cancer awareness even further by pairing humor and the latest colon cancer news and information, both which are equally dedicated to promoting healthy living and colon cancer prevention.
Ever since I was a girl, the pen and paper have been good friends of mine. As a wife, mother of four, travel agent and freelance writer for Stop Colon Cancer Now, I enjoy journaling, letter-writing and blogging as a way to capture everyday moments of life. I like making healthy living fun by cooking from scratch, taking family bike rides and training for half marathons. Maybe I’ll even run a full one someday! Since cancer has affected two of my family members in the past year, I have a passion for increased cancer awareness, screening and early detection.
I’m a wife and stay-at-home mom to two little girls with another on the way. What keeps me sane most days is a strong cup of coffee (or three) and time to write on my blog, “Growing in His Glory”, where I encourage women to “grow” in their roles as wives, mothers and daughters of God. When I’m not writing or taking care of my family, I enjoy trying out new recipes, reading a good book, and discovering ways to make homemaking and mothering easier and more enjoyable.
We are a husband and wife duo that is a force to be reckoned with. For the most part we are a normal family (depending on what you call normal). We both work full-time, and we have wonderful kids that we love dearly. The one thing that makes us a little different is that we are at war with colon cancer. In May 2012 Chris was diagnosed with stage 3B colon. Though Chris is the one that has colon cancer, the disease affects the entire family. We are happy to be a part of the Butt Seriously blog team, and we hope to help prevent colon cancer and to inspire other families who are also fighting the battle against colon cancer!
I have always had a passion for food and cooking my entire life. This passion led me to pursue my culinary degree at L’Academie de Cuisine in the Washington D.C. area. Even after graduating, the search for new inspirations and the perfect bite continues! I am looking forward to sharing all of my finds and curiosities with you in a delicious and healthy way.
Since 2009, I have been creating locally sourced, seasonally inspired menus as the sous chef at Marché Artisan Foods in Nashville, Tennessee. With a passion for clean, modern food that celebrates the ingredients local farmers and food artisans are growing and creating, I will be sharing great recipes that aren’t only delicious, but colon healthy too.
I’m a part-time graphic artist and part-time church youth director, but a full-time wife, mom and grandmother. My passion is working with young people and I use my creative side to help them in their spiritual walk. I love to paint, babysit my grandson and go on mission trips. I am a breast cancer survivor with a family history of colon cancer, so cancer prevention is a big part of my life. I often call on my personal experience for speaking engagements to other survivors and to grief support groups.
